Paulette Bansal

I am an artist/printmaker and live and work in Manchester. In a previous life, I studied textile design, worked for many years in art and design education, and after that, co-ran a digital art business.

I am now a member of the Hot Bed Press studio in Salford, which is the perfect sanctuary for me to work in. Printmaking allows me to re-kindle a creative pathway working directly by hand, not machine.

I visually record information when I am on the move - locally walking around, on holiday, a visit to new place. I record colour, lines in the landscape, surfaces and unusual composition. I tend to mix these elements up to create and develop the imagery for my prints.

In my current work, I have been focusing on the exploration of monoprint. This process allows me to draw directly onto a plate and explore mark making to produce an image.

Etching is a more intimate type of printing that I work with, my main focus being the physicality of the plates. The unknown outcome of the finished piece often feeds my investigation.
